Tomb Raider heading to new-gen consoles

An enhanced version of Tomb Raider’s 2013 reboot is to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One, it has been announced this week.

Square Enix’s Crystal Dynamics studio are hoping to prolong the life of Lara Croft’s "character-defining" adventure with the release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, which will feature a number of improvements that take advantage of the power of the new-generation consoles.

New additions include the introduction of an all-new character model and other graphical tweaks such as enhanced lighting, textures and effects; with "in-game characters, enemies and destructability [sic]" also being tweaked.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition includes all of the original DLC, plus digital versions of the Dark Horse comic, mini-art book and developer videos. Pre-order incentives include special packaging and newly-released concept art.

Crystal Dynamics executive producer, Scot Amos said: "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is so named as it’s exactly what we’ve custom built for the Xbox One and PlayStation®4 system consoles.

"The new hardware let us finally express the original vision in all of its glory. … We pulled the game apart and rebuilt it with painstaking detail to add enhanced visual storytelling but without changing the award winning tale. The end result is a cinematic living world."

The game will run at 1080p natively, and is set for release on January 28, 2014 in North America.
