The Old City: Leviathan is a first person, narrative-driven game that encourages the player to unravel the story through their exploration of the environment. In this regard, Leviathan represents a move away from the core aspects of gaming such as the focus on gameplay systems, and concentrates more on telling an interactive story. The game, plus others such as Gone Home and Dear Esther, seems to signify that a new genre is emerging, and that there is a hunger in the market for deeper narratives.
A couple of weeks ago, we caught up with Blaine Bowen, the lead designer at developer PostMod Softworks, to find out a little more about the development of the game, and the community reaction to it.
The Old City: Leviathan is scheduled to release on Steam later today (December 3); our review of the game should follow shortly thereafter.
