Mortal Kombat X: Official Gameplay Trailer Unveiled

The latest Mortal Kombat X trailer has been released, showing off an almost nauseatingly vicious gameplay montage.

Developers NetherRealm appear to be going for a slightly darker and more serious visual style to MK9’s colourful, breast-filled affair. For example, the razor edge of Kung Lao’s hat is now lined with spikes, Quan Chi wears an outfit similar to Skyrim’s Daedric armour, and Kitana now looks like the hardcore killer Shao Khan raised her to be.

The background doesn’t appear to fade to black during fatalities any more, which makes the violence feel a little less sensational and thus, a touch more disturbing. The trailer did not, however, show any of the environmental weapons and combat demonstrated in earlier teasers.

The video also confirmed that Goro will return as a playable character, though only for pre-ordered copies of the game.

Mortal Kombat X is due for a worldwide release on April 14, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
