Final Fantasy XV Demo Will 'Avoid' Main Story, While Still Being 'Concrete'

Square Enix are “avoiding having players play through the main story” in the upcoming Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo, according to the game’s director.

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Hajime Tabata was questioned on the FFXV demo set to be released alongside the day one edition of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which he is also directing.

When asked about the Duscae region featured in the demo and whether players will be able to follow a part of the full game’s plot, he said: “Unfortunately with this particular demo, we’re avoiding having players play through the main story. That said, it’s not gonna be as simple as we’re dropping you into this open world and you can do whatever you’d like to do.”

Tabata stated that the demo will “have some concreteness to it”, with the developers working to ensure a balance of playability and enjoyment as its own, standalone game. He added: “That said, we are kinda taking a part of the game that’s related to the main story to a certain extent. It may feel a little bit unnatural, but we did kind of include portions that players would easily be able to provide feedback on.”

In the interview, the developer also responded to questions on the size and scale of the full Final Fantasy XV world as compared with that of its upcoming demo.
