Club Nintendo Loyalty Scheme Discontinued

Nintendo has confirmed the discontinuation of its Club Nintendo rewards scheme, with a new program set to replace it later in the year.

Announced yesterday, by way of a press release out of their Redmond, Washington offices, Nintendo of America shed light on the future of its loyalty program: “After more than six years of delivering fun Nintendo-themed rewards to its members, Club Nintendo is preparing to shut down.”

Since its inception, the program has allowed users to redeem codes on Nintendo software and hardware they purchased to build up online “Coins,” which can then be traded in for rewards. Users will only be able to earn new coins through the end of March, while Coins can be redeemed through the end of June.

In an effort to ease fans into this transition, Nintendo will be adding “dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.” As a ‘thank you’ to all current Club Nintendo users, Flipnote Studio 3D will be available as a free download from sometime in February to June 30.

No word was given regarding a name, launch date, or content details for Nintendo’s new rewards program. Those details have been promised “at a later date.”
