As promised earlier in the week, Arc Games has added a tribute to the recently departed Leonard Nimoy and a number of his colleagues as part of a larger Star Trek Online update.
A new statue of Nimoy’s character Spock can be found on the planet Vulcan, which is branded with the iconic inscription, ‘Live Long and Prosper’. A similar statue has also been erected on New Romulus, inscribed with, ‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few’, which pays reference to the Romulan and Vulcan reunification.
Furthermore, a number of plaques added throughout the game carry the name of Nimoy and other deceased actors who worked on the franchise, including James Doohan, Majel Barrett and DeForrest Kelley. Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek’s creator, is also memorialized.
Finally, there is also a temporary tribute in the form of black flags hanging in the Earth Spacedock, Qo’nos and New Romulus, which will run for the next week.
In a post outlining the tribute on Star Trek Online’s Steam page, executive producer Stephen Ricossa said: “I’m certain everyone who knew of Nimoy’s work will remember him in their own special way, and I want to make sure Star Trek Online also has an in-game way for people to remember him as well.”
Elite: Dangerous will be similarly adding a memorial to the actor, with the Nimoy Memorial Station set be included as part of the upcoming Wings update.
