The developers of TimeSplitters Rewind have released a video and screenshot showing off the latest level to be featured in their upcoming fan HD remake.
The stage in question, Compound, appeared in both the original TimeSplitters and its sequel, and is believed to have been loosely based on GoldenEye 007’s Depot and Archives stages. The developer responsible for recreating the level, known by the username Damianaid, posted a teaser video today showing off the stage at various states of development.
The video promises a full reveal of the stage on April 3, and follows the unveiling of a screenshot taken from the ‘final’ version of the level earlier in the week on the game’s official Facebook page.
Damianaid later stated that fans should expect a “flood of TS updates” in the months ahead, with “something gameplay related” due to be shown off in April.
Fans of the series have been reacting favourably to Compound on social media, which will no doubt come as a relief to Rewind’s developers, as last month’s teaser received a mixed response.
The project was born after an unsuccessful fan petition to license holders Crytek that urged them to resume development on the shelved TimeSplitters 4. Some of the more technically minded fans of the cult first-person shooter franchise soon decided to begin production on their own game based on the series on their own, and TimeSplitters Rewind was born. The team were subsequently given the go-ahead from Crytek UK, who also offered up official assets from the three games in the franchise as well as expert help.
TimeSplitters Rewind is a standalone multiplayer game, built using the CryEngine and encompassing the most popular aspects from all three games in the original series. Although the developmental team are using the original assets as a reference point, they are recreating everything “from the ground up”. It is being developed for PC and PS4, with the developers already receiving the green light for a release on the former.
