Nicalis has today confirmed the official launch date of Afterbirth, a ‘mega-DLC’ add-on for its critically acclaimed indie roguelike, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
According to an official press release, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth will be released on Steam on October 30, with an SRP of $9.99 (although pre-order discounts are said to be in the works). A console release is to follow, although its launch date is not yet confirmed.
Afterbirth will significantly expand the original game, with a total of 1,000 new rooms, 120 new items, and a new playable character in the form of Lilith, mother of demons, being introduced to the creepy dungeon crawler.
Furthermore, an all-new Greed mode, which features a different way to play the game by focusing on risk versus reward, will also be present, coming complete with a number of alternative endings and a final boss.
Other additions include daily challenges, an enhanced soundtrack, an improved HUD system and many different new enemy and room types.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth won us over here at Power Up Gaming upon its release last year, earning our first-ever perfect 10 review score. According to its creator Edmund McMillen, the game explores a number of hard-hitting themes including child abuse, suicide, abortion and religion.
