Square Enix has today revealed the newest entry in the Final Fantasy/ Disney mash-up, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
The collection, announced earlier at the pre-TGS Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia Press Conference, will feature three KH titles, one of which will debut in the collection. Similar to Chain of Memories on the GBA, KH 2.8 will set the scene for KH3 and bring players up to speed on the complex storyline synonymous with the KH series.
Previous Nintendo 3DS exclusive Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance will be on the collection as an HD remake, alongside Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage.
Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover will not feature gameplay, but instead explain plot elements in the Japanese Kingdom Hearts web browser title Kingdom Hearts X through use of the game’s cutscenes. That title is set to release in the U.S. this year and explains Kingdom Hearts’ earliest history.
A Fragmentary Passage is a playable title made specifically for the collection, and will take place after the events of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and be told from the perspective of Birth By Sleep heroine Aqua. The trailer concludes with an HD Aqua walking down a dark path, similar to the scenery seen during the end of Kingdom Hearts.
This news comes at the heels of last week’s KH rumour that had a LinkedIn profile leaking a supposed Kingdom Hearts 2.9 (which would be an absolutely ridiculous title, so thank heavens for that change… cough).
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will come to PS4 in 2016 and an official trailer will drop September 17.
