In March of this year, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XI, the first MMO in the popular series, would be gradually phased out and the servers shut down mid-2016. Sad news indeed for fans of the game. However, Square has now debuted a trailer for a new mobile MMO, titled Final Fantasy Grandmasters. Grandmasters is a spinoff of FFXI and features many aspects of the game that will have fans feeling right at home.
The trailer shows a group characters that represent the various races of FFXI: Hume, TaruTaru, Elvaan, Mithra, and Galka. These characters are dressed in standard Final Fantasy job class garb, including a Knight, a Thief, White and Black Mages, and perhaps even a Dragoon, Onion Knight, and Warrior of Light. The characters band together to battle the infamous Behemoth. Grandmasters will allow players to explore the world of FFXI’s Vana’diel, and players will be able to meet up with others online, chat, and join together to form a more effective battle team.
