As a spinoff to the popular fighting game series Dead or Alive, the Xtreme 3 version features the same characters playing beach volleyball in super-revealing bathing suits. In a reply to a Facebook user’s question, the “Dead or Alive Game” replied, in notably non-perfect English, that “We do not bring DOAX3 to the west and won’t have any plan change in the future.” The decision supposedly comes from the way women that are being treated throughout the gaming industry.
The mentality of censoring and removing anything and everything that might offend someone needs to stop, and the sooner the better. The more companies give in to naysayers, the less they will have to offer the people who appreciate them and their work. Everyone is offended by something, and some people are offended by everything. These people do not and must not be allowed to dictate how the rest of society lives their life. It is Koei Tecmo’s responsibility to deliver its products to the gamers who demand it, and to acknowledge that some people don’t like it and to say “thank you for your opinion, but we are doing it anyway.”
For those who simply must play Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, take heart, as Play Asia will be selling the English version of the game online.
