In 2011, a company known as RecogniCorp sued Nintendo over the technology it used in the Mii creation process. A verdict was reached yesterday wherein the court ruled in favor of the video game giant. The technology in question has to do with the Mii creation’s face recognition programming, as RecogniCorp’s patented system mostly involves storing and reading police sketch art.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has been sued, and it probably won’t be the last. Possibly the most famous case was Universal Studios’ suit over a certain maiden-kidnapping ape. That case lasted two years, from 1982 to 1984. By contrast, this tussle over the Mii technology dragged from 2011 to the end of this year, 2015. Those interested may view the original complaint here.
