Was Splatoon’s Last Update Really the Last?

Splatoon, Nintendo’s seafood pun-infused online shooter, took off like a rocket upon its release and hasn’t slowed down since. January 2016 saw what was reported to be the final content update for the title, but a statement by producer Hisashi Nogami may indicate the company is reconsidering. A translation of the statement at a recent tournament says, “We announced that updates to the game would end in January but I’m starting to wonder if we can’t organize a little something else.”

Ancho-V Games is the final multiplayer map released for Splatoon. Clearly, the employees are evacuated while the kids make a mess of everything.

And why wouldn’t they? Obviously they can’t keep adding onto Splatoon forever, but the game is still quite young, especially for an online multiplayer shooter. Rumour has it that Callie and Marie will be getting Amiibo figures, which spawned from data mining the game and finding “Idol” Amiibo files. This means very little, as Octolings have been hacked into Splatoon as playable characters before, meaning those files may also never be used. Octolings and squid sister Amiibos would make more sense being released for “Spla2n.” And no, no such thing is in the works right now. That was a joke. Don’t start more rumours. But do stay fresh.
