Opening their E3 press after the announcement of the Xbox One Slim, The Coalition Studio Head Rod Ferguson revealed that Gears 4 will be cross buy and cross play between Xbox One and Windows 10. He also officially announced the long awaited return of Horde Mode in Horde 3.0.
Campaign gameplay was shown as well, showing off new enemies, a new weapon, and environmental options. Where the multiplayer beta introduced us to the DropShot, the E3 campaign demo showed off new protagonist JD Fenix wielding a new saw blade launcher that’s capable of ricocheting off of parts of the environment. The enemies shown are also bipedal like the Locust Horde from past Gears titles, however some were slimmer, and more agile than what we’re used to in the franchise. They also showed off destructible cover, which both the player and the enemy can take advantage of.
At the end of the demo, we were introduced to a female character that seems to be a human threat, but most notably, the demo ended with a look at an older, greyed Marcus Fenix, welcoming his son JD back home.
Gears of War 4 will be available on October 11th 2016, and will be available on Xbox One and Windows 10.
