Within the gameplay trailer for We Happy Few shown during the Xbox E3 Conference, players were introduced to a dystopian-esque world of which the protagonist seems eager to escape.
Although information concerning We Happy Few has occasionally come to light, including reports of drug use and Nazis, the trailer shown seemed to provide a good bit of insight from the story and atmosphere provided in the game. The protagonist within the trailer refuses to take his prescribed drug, “joy,” which seemingly distorts reality into a much more pleasant experience. The other members within the community, or “tube” as the protagonist deems it, quickly find out the player hasn’t been taking his prescription and decide to attack him.
The game has a psychological thriller feel to it and looks heavily inspired by aspects of the original Bioshock including the aesthetics, animations, UI and button prompts, and even some aspects of the story. We Happy Few’s console version will debut on Xbox One and will be available as part of Xbox Preview starting July 26.
