Amazon Game Studios Unveils Streamer-Friendly Debut Games

Amazon Game Studios has announced its three debut PC titles at this week’s TwitchCon 2016.

Powered by the Amazon Lumberyard engine, Breakaway, New World and Crucible will all feature direct Twitch integration, allowing streamers to get even closer to their community of followers.

Breakaway is a 4v4 mythological sport brawler, which Amazon says is “built for fast action, teamwork, and live-streaming”. In the game, which features legendary warriors including Spartacus, Morgan Le Fay and Vlad the Impaler and mythical locations such as El Dorado and Atlantis, players must assemble fight for control of the Relic; passing it between teammates, defending it from attackers, and smashing into an opponent’s base to score.

The title also allows streamers to customise their Twitch broadcasts with real-time stat overlays and invite their followers to join in their matches. For viewers, Breakaway will tell players when they’re taking part in a match that is currently being broadcast and allow them to follow the streamer with a single click, while also allowing them to wager loyalty points while watching streams that can be redeemed for in-game rewards.

Breakaway is being demoed throughout TwitchCon in San Diego all this week, while sign-ups for the alpha – which takes place later in the year – are open now.

With regards to the other debutants announced, New World is a massively multiplayer, open-ended sandbox game in which players are faced with a whole manner of supernatural terrors and murderous player bandits as they struggle to survive in a living, cursed land. Amazon promises that the title will feature “emergent gameplay and rich social features”, with “the only limit in the New World [being] a player’s ambition”.

Crucible, meanwhile, features a battle to the last man standing on a hostile, alien world. Players must forge and betray alliances in order to be the last survivor.

Mike Frazzini, vice president of Amazon Games, said: “Watching and interacting with broadcasters and the communities on Twitch has inspired us to think about games in a new way – to ask ourselves ‘what would it look like to create a game with broadcasting and viewing in mind from the very start?’ It’s clear the experiences that fans have outside the game, from viewing and broadcasting to live events and esports, are huge sources of entertainment.

“We’ve hired some of the best creators in the world to build games that we hope will be as fun to watch as they are to play. We’re excited to reveal a first look at our titles, and invite fans and broadcasters to share what they think and join us in shaping the development of our games.”
