Overwatch’s Halloween-themed update will be arriving later today, if the websites of several official Asian Blizzard subsidiaries are any indication.
Speculation about the popular hero shooter’s latest seasonal update has been rife following a leak from the Xbox store late last week, and earlier today an update posted on the official Taiwan Blizzard website appears to have confirmed the imminent arrival of the Halloween Terror event. The site also seems to give credence to the rumours of the inclusion of spooky lootboxes, giving players a glimpse at a delightfully freakish-looking Frankenstein’s monster skin for Road Hog, with Junkrat taking on the role of the doctor himself.
Furthermore, an update posted soon afterwards on the official South Korean Blizzard website, dedicated to the Korean Internet Gaming Rooms, provided details of a 1.74GB patch for Overwatch, which is due to launch at 3AM KST on October 12. This converts to 6PM GMT today (October 11), suggesting players may soon be able to take part in the game’s Halloween event and unlock appropriately themed loot boxes, featuring creepy skins, voice lines, victory animations and more.
The Overwatch community has been abuzz with discussion over the weekend, after hackers purportedly released details about Sombra, a new character who has been teased via an ARG that launched shortly after the initial release of the game back in May.
