Platinum Games’ upcoming action RPG Nier: Automata may be set to include a multiplayer component, according to a listing for the game on the Japanese PlayStation Store.
Loosely translated, the section in question advisers users that if they wish to play the title’s multiplayer, then they need to have a valid PlayStation Plus subscription. Given that Nier: Automata has only previously been showcased as a single-player experience, this could be a very significant line indeed.
The game is set in the same universe as the original Nier, a spin-off of the Drakengard franchise, and is directed by series creator Taro Yoko.
Nier: Automata features a post-apocalyptic open world environment and action-based gameplay, where the remnants of humanity are embroiled in a war with machines created by alien invaders. It is scheduled to release in Japan on February 23, 2017.
