Telltale Announces Release Date for Final Batman Episode

In a pleasantly surprising reversal of its infamously protracted release schedules, Telltale Games has revealed that Batman – The Telltale Series Episode 5: ‘City of Light’ will launch on December 13 across all platforms.

Unlike previous Telltale outings, which saw delayed release dates for the mobile versions, all players on compatible iOS and Android-based devices will get to join in on the fun the same day as everyone else.

A performance update has also been released on Steam, aiming to resolve the much derided frame-rate drops and touting wider support for various PC configurations by adding more graphics options. A quick perusal of the Steam discussions board suggests performance has improved, even if the patch does require a hefty 7.8 GB download, with one user joking, “they’re putting the frames back in.”

While Telltale has always faced scrutiny over its promise to deliver on meaningful choice and consequence in its games, the developer assures that the final episode will start players off in very different places depending on where they chose to go in the final act of Episode 4.

A press release from Telltale Games offers the following synopsis for the final episode:

In Episode 5, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to execute the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name, and the people closest to you are in their path of vengeance. Can Batman’s ultimate secret be kept – his very identity – when it is causing chaos and death in Gotham? The fate of the Wayne family and of the city itself rests on your choices. What will you do? How far will you go? Which mask will you wear?

For people interested in testing the series out, Episode 1: ‘Realm of Shadows’ is currently free to download for PC via Steam. A retail version of the whole series is also now available as a Season Pass Disc in stores across North America and Europe.
