Delayed Sonic Mania Receives Official Box Art

Sonic Mania

Whilst Sega confirmed yesterday that upcoming throwback platformer Sonic Mania is set to be delayed from an initial release window of spring 2017 to the summer, it’s not all bad news for fans of the blue blur.

As part of its official Sonic: Gotta Go Fast panel at SXSW 2017 in Austin, Texas, the Japanese gaming giant unveiled the title’s official cover art, in addition to a teaser image of some of Mania’s more imposing antagonists – possibly mini-bosses.

Furthermore, speakers including Sega’s Mike Pollock and Roger Smith, along with Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka, confirmed the inclusion of a much-loved classic Sonic level in the upcoming 2D side-scroller: Sonic 3 & Knuckles’ Flying Battery Zone.

Designed by long-time Sonic fangame community members Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley in the style of the original Genesis trilogy, Sonic Mania is being released across current-gen consoles and PC as a celebration of the iconic blue hedgehog’s 25th anniversary, which took place last summer.
