Known as the biggest speedrunning event in the world, Games Done Quick is the biannual event that unites speed runners across the world. The first event, Awesome Games Done Quick, takes place in January of each year.
The one coming up on June 24, 2018 is Summer Games Done Quick and has just had its run schedule released by organisers.
The most recent Games Done Quick raised around $2.3 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, achieved through the utilising of multiple donation incentives, such as the naming of characters and seeing funny glitches after a run.
One such incentive that runs throughout the event is whether to “kill or save the animals”, which refers to a famous scene at the end of Super Metroid, in which Samus can choose to save some captured wildlife. This is particularly important to the event as the SNES title is one of the first games to have had a large speedrunning community and is regarded by many to be one of the greatest video games of all time.
