Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is set to be announced as a playable bonus character to users who pre-order the upcoming WWE 2K19.
This week, publisher 2K and WWE issued a joint press release confirming the inclusion of lucha legend Rey Mysterio as the title’s first downloadable pre-order incentive, with the superstar being kitted out with ring gear based on his surprise appearance at this year’s WWE Royal Rumble 2018.
Perhaps more intriguingly for fans was presser’s statement that Mysterio is set to appear “alongside a second playable character to be announced by 2K in the coming weeks”. This line appears to lend credence to an earlier report by Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin, who reported that AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy and Ronda Rousey were all spotted on-set at a recent commercial shoot held by 2K; with the latter reported to be included as a DLC superstar.
The same report also claimed that AJ Styles would feature as the title’s cover star; which was confirmed on WWE programming last week. Given that Mysterio’s inclusion has now been confirmed as official, it follows that crossover star Rousey, who made her in-ring debut at WWE Wrestlemania 34 back in April, will be the next star to be announced.
An Olympic bronze medallist in judo, decorated MMA athlete and aspiring movie star, Ronda Rousey seems at home in the world of pro wrestling, with the WWE seeming a logical home after she suffered back-to-back knockout defeats in the UFC. These, of course, came after the 31-year-old made history by going 12-0 in MMA, legitimising women’s combat sports in the eyes of many observers.
