WWE 2K19 will not be released for Nintendo Switch following a backlash to last year’s instalment, publisher 2K Games has officially confirmed.
Last year’s entry in the long-running professional wrestling franchise became the first WWE title to be released for the Switch, but the series will not be returning to the console in 2018.
2K Games confirmed the move in an official statement issued earlier, which followed weeks of speculation after the platform was omitted from press releases announcing the development of WWE 2K19.
WWE 2K18, while generally well-received by critics, was universally panned on the Nintendo console, with journalists and consumers reporting major performance and framerate issues as the title struggled on the Switch’s limited hardware capabilities (in comparison to PS4, Xbox One and PC).
Apparently unable to resolve such limitations, and rather than releasing a scaled-down port of WWE 2K19 for the console, 2K have instead opted to skip the system entirely, confirming the move in a statement released earlier today by its 2K Sports arm:
“WWE 2K19 will not be available on Nintendo Switch. 2K is focused on making the best possible experience for WWE 2K fans and will continue evaluating all opportunities to deliver the franchise across additional platforms.”
The title is scheduled to release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 8, with playable versions of Rey Mysterio and Ronda Rousey serving as its pre-order incentives.
