As time goes by we are getting small details regarding the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game that CDPR is working on. The new information that we have is about the environment and how it is going to be more vertical as compared to The Witcher 3. Recently a fan asked about how big the world of Cyberpunk 2077 was and the answer was very interesting indeed.
CDPR talked about how the Night City has 6 districts but did not reveal how big the city was because as of right now, no one has actually measured it. The dev mentioned that measuring the city is tricky because of the verticality. There are multiple floors in buildings and people will have access to some of these floors. Different activities can be found on different floors of said buildings.
CDPR mentioned that the Witcher 3 can be described as flat when comparing it to the world of Cyberpunk 2077. While The Witcher 3 is flat, the activities are scattered across the map. Cyberpunk 2077 can be huge but that does not mean that it will be spread horizontally, it can also expand upwards or downwards.
This means that the game will have multiple layers. Not only can players traverse upwards but downwards as well. This might hint at dungeons in the game. The game is set in the future so we are not going to get actual dungeons but the basic mechanics might be the same. This is very interesting indeed and I am sure that the devs will reveal more information regarding the matter in the upcoming weeks.
Verticality can add a lot of depth to a game but it all comes down to the actual implementation and game mechanics. This is CDPR that we are talking about, I am sure that the devs will do the game justice. While there is no official release date for Cyberpunk 2077, rumors would have us believe that it will be out before the end of 2019. For now, all that we can do is what and see what happens.
We have also talked about how it is possible that the game could run at native 4K on the Xbox One X. Stay tuned for more news and updates regarding Cyberpunk 2077.
