BioWare is known for making immersive single-player experiences such a Mass Effect and Dragonage, but it turns out that the same will not be the case for Anthem. While Anthem does have a campaign, the devs think that the experience will not be rewarding if you play the game alone.
It seems that the game is meant to be played with a squad. That might be disappointing for some BioWare fans that have played the single-player games that the developer has brought to the table in the past.
It is safe to say that Anthem is one of the most anticipated games of 2019 and there is a lot of hype around the title. Players were promised the option of playing solo or in a team and even though the developers are staying true to their word, new statements might be a bummer for some people that were hoping to be able to play the game alone.
BioWare’s Thomas Singleton, a developer on Anthem, touched on the matter in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine and the following is what he had to say in this regard:
“Where the product shines is playing as that squad, you’re working together as a unit to go and conquer various missions. If you want to play the experience solo that’s your option, it probably won’t be as rewarding, you won’t have that team dynamic.”
A simple solution to the problem would be to introduce AI-driven companion that can make up your squad but that is not the direction the developers are taking. Mark Darrah has already confirmed that if you are playing alone then AI companion will not join you. If you have played previous BioWare games then you know that AI-driven companions are another thing that the devs have done right.
While it is unfortunate that Anthem will not have these feature, there is still hope. The game has a lot to offer from what we can see in the demos and live streams but I will hold my judgments till the game is out and I have had a chance to take it for a spin.
Let us know what you think about Anthem and whether or not you are interested in playing the game when it comes out early 2019.
