When it comes to the console wars, Xbox One has been lagging behind the PS4 since it launched. One of the reasons is that Microsoft did not market the console right and people were not ready for a console that was always connected to the internet.
All Sony needed to do in order to win was market the exact opposite. Since then, Xbox One has been underperforming and the gap has widened over the years. Another reason is the lack of Xbox One exclusives.
Sony releases a couple of PS4 exclusive games each year and games like God of War and Spiderman are console sellers. Xbox One exclusives are not as strong and Metacritic has now confirmed that not a single Xbox One exclusive got a positive review in 2018. The following is what the site stated regarding the matter:
“Microsoft failed to offer a compelling case to pick up an Xbox One rather than another console in 2018. The best “console exclusive” titles released for XB1 last year could also be played on your PC, and there wasn’t a single game exclusive to Xbox One alone that received positive reviews from critics.”
The site also mentioned that Red Dead Redemption 2 was the highest-scoring game of 2018 with 97 points. It was also pointed out that in the last five years only two other games got the same score. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild happened to be one of those games and it was also a console-seller for Nintendo.
The lack of Xbox One exclusives has been a major issue for Microsoft and one of the reasons might be that the same games are playable on PC as well. People might prefer to play the same games on PC rather than the Xbox One keeping in mind that PC offers better hardware and a lot of flexibility.
Microsoft has acquired a couple of studios and has also formed one of its own, so things could be different in the future. It is safe to say that 2018 was another bad year for Xbox.
Let us know what you think about the Xbox One exclusives that released in 2018 and whether or not we might get a better lineup for Xbox Scarlett when it comes out in 2020.
