Cyberpunk 2077: Everything That We Know So Far

Cyberpunk 2077 Cover

There is a lot of hype around Cyberpunk 2077 and you would be excited too if you have played the Witcher series as the same developer is working on this game. While this is an open-world RPG, there are plenty of things that are different about Cyberpunk 2077 compared to The Witcher 3.

First of all, Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the future rather than in medieval times. The game is not in the third-person but the first-person. These are just a few differences but there are many more. Here we are going to talk about everything that we know about Cyberpunk 2077

Everything That We Know About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 has been teased for a while but then we finally got a trailer for the game at E3 2018. This generated a lot of hype around the game and people wanted to learn more. Obviously, CDPR did not say much.

Later on, we got the 48-minutes long demo footage of the game and the hype grew even more. CDPR has been more vocal about the game ever since and has been talking about it much more openly. We have been getting loads of new details in the past couple of weeks and it seems that we might get a release date soon too.

What is the gameplay like?

This is an open-world game with cars, NPCs and customization options so you can expect to see gameplay similar to GTAV. We know that the world has a day and night cycle and NPCs go about their daily activities just like human beings in the real world. CDPR has also confirmed that there is no game over screen no matter what you do and that the player will be able to get away with some dumb stuff.

Players will not be forced to complete an objective and missions will be more complex when compared to The Witcher 3. For example. if the objective of a mission is to protect an NPC, the game will not be over if the NPC dies. The mission will take another route or you will notice the effects of the characters death later on. This is very interesting indeed and while it is cool in theory we will have to see the actual implementation before we can comment on it.

Inspired by Vampire the Masquerade and Deus Ex

Developers need to take inspiration from something when making something as ambitious as Cyberpunk 2077. Even when the game is different. Quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz talked about the inspiration behind Cyberpunk 2077 and he mentioned that the game is inspired by Vampire the Masquerade and Deus Ex. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

In terms of what is an RPG in the first-person and the way in which its non-linearity is built in the gameplay and dialogue, so this one of course. Specifically, because it is the perfect example of a first person game and RPG that I personally enjoyed,

More Cyberpunk 2077 At E3 2019

CDPR has confirmed that it will be there at E3 2019 and in a recent investors call, the developer confirmed that it has a strong presentation planned for E3 2019. Last year, CDPR took to the stage at the Xbox conference and you can expect to see the same this year as well.

Releasing On Next-generation Consoles?

CDPR has confirmed that if they have the opportunity make Cyberpunk 2077 for the next Xbox and the PS5 then it will but for now the developers are busy working on making the game for the current generation of consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.

The Night City

Cyberpunk 2077 is based in Night City. This is where you will have most of your in-game experiences. CDPR has confirmed that unlike The Witcher 3, the Night City will have a lot of verticality and players will have the ability to explore different parts of the high buildings. The city is not horizontally large but that is made up by the verticality.

The city is controlled by different gangs and corporations that are struggling for power and you will need a certain degree of diplomacy in order to survive.

NPCs

Cyberpunk 2077

This is an open-world game so there are going to be plenty of NPCs. CDPR has confirmed that the characters are going to be memorable just like Ciri and Geralt. This is something that we will have to see ourselves.

Plenty Of New Mechanics

We have seen some gameplay but there is a lot that we do not know about. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz mentioned that there are plenty of mechanics that have not been shown off yet. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

We are working on bringing good and fun combat mechanics, and I think we have a wide range of weapons that will make our game stand out. I do not know if you remember in the previous demo that there were smart rifles, and this is something that I have not seen much in the current FPS. Also, I think that in terms of gameplay we have some ideas and things that are not ready yet and that we are trying to implement because they will be very good.

We might be able to learn more about these game mechanics at E3 2019.

Your Role

You play V. The character can be male or female and there are plenty of customization options for you to play with and personalize your character. Customization options include tattoos, clothing, and hair. You will also choose parts of your story and will change different elements of the game. In essence, you are a small time criminal that is going to rise in rank by completing different activities and gaining credibility.

Plenty Of Romance

Cyberpunk 2077

We have seen plenty of nudity in the demo and CDPR has confirmed that there are going to be all sorts of romance that you can do in the game. You will have plenty of companions as well. This is an adult game and will have a lot of sex and nudity. We have got a glimpse of it but you can expect to see a lot more.

Gunplay In Cyberpunk 2077

Gunplay Style Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz commented on the kind of gunplay Cyberpunk 2077 has. He claimed that it is a mix of realistic and arcade. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

I think it would be something in between, because it is an RPG and we have statistics, damage and so on. And as you know, enemies also have stats, then it is not super realistic like a World War II title where a shot means to be dead, but I would say that it does not reach the level of arcade like the examples you have described (In this case they were Borderlands and Bulletstorm).

Development Since E3 2018

A lot of time has passed since E3 2018. You would expect that a lot of development has been made since then and you would be right in thinking so. Tomaszkiewicz mentioned that the team is working on polishing the game and that only a small portion was shown at E3 2018. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

We are polishing everything and constantly thinking how to make this game more interesting, how to make the gameplay cool and, well, the gameplay we saw last year was basically a small fragment of the game. There was not a clear picture of how the game fits into an open world or how it fits into a larger image of the game.

DLC?

DLC could be released after the base game comes out but for now, the developer has confirmed that it is focusing on the main game.

Release Date

As of right now, there is no release date for Cyberpunk 2077. There is a lot of anticipation that we might get a release date at E3 2019 and it is expected that the game is going to release by the end of the year.

Release Platforms

While the game could come to next-generation consoles. We know that it is being made for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
