Shawn Layden Leaves Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Chairman for Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden has announced his departure from Sony at some point in the near future.

The news was broken on the official PlayStation Twitter account yesterday, followed by a quote from the company:

“It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”

Those of you who watch Sony’s E3 conferences will remember Layden as quick witted and amiable host who was often front and centre for many of Sony’s major announcement. It will be exciting to see where he pops up next.

His departure comes at a very strange time for the company; with the PS5 rumours starting to build, it does seem odd for such an important figure to leave. Although Sony revealing the PS5 in 2020 is only that, a rumour. There is plenty of life in the PS4 yet, but who knows what may be around the corner.
