It’s been a tough few weeks for Blizzard not only has the Switch release of Overwatch been contentious but the company has also been mired in controversy following the protests in Hong Kong. Although, if we’re looking for reasons to be cheerful we may just have found one.
A German magazine called GameStar recently displayed an advert for a special Diablo Artbook which reads: ‘Featuring over 500 artworks from Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 3 and Diablo 4’.
The page in the magazine has been doing the rounds on Twitter and it seems to suggest that an announcement by Blizzard could be imminent. While the leak doesn’t show any screenshots or provide any information about Diablo 4, it’s telling enough that the games title has even been mentioned.
Usually ads like this are held back until after an announcement but in 2019 leaks happen often. It’s harder to keep this sort of thing under wraps once press releases have gone out to third parties.
While some have speculated the ‘Diablo 4’ part could be a typo, many more think it’s legitimate and likely to be a timed publishing error instead. It may even force Blizzard’s hand causing them to reveal Diablo 4 earlier than planned. Although with BlizzCon 2019 so close they may hold fire.
It’s no secret that Blizzard are working on Diablo 4, we’ve known for a while that the company is developing it, so much so that last year at BlizzCon fans were upset when it wasn’t announced.
Another thing that polarised fans at BlizzCon 2018 was the reveal of Diablo Immortal, an iOS/Android title using the assets of Diablo 3 to bring the series to smartphones. No word on the release date of this title but Blizzard still aims to release it in 2019.
The GameStar leak also suggests that Diablo 2 may be getting a remaster. Now that is exciting.
