Corepunk is an MMORPG, and honestly that’s enough to sell me on it. However, there’s a little more to the game that might make it something you too could be excited about, such as fog of war, a seamless open world to explore with others, loads of enemies to kill, different ways to explore, weapons and armour to craft, and even items to equip and turn your character into a complete badass with. This is not an MMO for the faint of heart, it’s a hardcore RPG with online elements that will swallow you whole if you’re not careful.
First things fist, check out this really entertaining trailer for the game, then read on for more details.
What a World
The world of Corepunk isn’t exactly explored in this trailer, and there are very few details about it so far. What I can tell you from what I’ve seen is that it’s got loads of fantasy elements and steampunk elements combined into one. There are arid wastelands, lush forests, and cities filled with crime and back alleys to do shady deals in. This world is also about crafting your character through their equipment, which you forge yourself. I really like this mechanic because I love how it’s used in other games, such as Monster Hunter World. Building your own items means that you’re working towards a certain set of them, and you don’t simply end up with random rolls.
Fog of War
The fog of war is a nice touch that makes Corepunk a little more unique. Without being able to see what’s around you, travel is much more dangerous. With this in mind, I can see why there are trains and other transports for players to take instead of setting out across the lands by themselves. I also really love the idea of using the fog of war against other players in PVP. This is something that’s only subtly shown in the trailer, but you can sneak up on groups of enemy players without them ever seeing you, so long as you stick to the fog of war. This means that you can essentially ambush anyone, as long as they don’t have items that broaden their fog of war view.
As I said at the start, the fact that this is an MMORPG is enough to make me excited for this game. I love the top down view, I really enjoy the combat, and everything about the progression and upgrade systems is totally up my street. This game isn’t for those who want a little game they can jump into for half an hour every week, this is for players who want to dedicate hundreds of hours to something.
