Rockstar Games has given the wild west of Red Dead Redemption 2 a festive makeover for the holiday season, and it’s beautiful. Most of the online game’s aspects will be affected by the festivities, bringing new content to a lot of cowboys this Christmas.

Seasonal Frontier

The frontier itself has been given a new look for the festive period. Players might hear pianos putting out Christmas songs as they travel by, but that’s as nice as this place gets. The festive season brings some harsh weather with it, which is sure to play havoc with everyone’s navigation. It’s advised that players keep a stewpot on the go so they don’t die out in the cold.

Holiday Showdowns

The Showdown modes have been reworked and dusted with snow just for the festive period. Anyone wanting to try these out should jump into Up in Smoke, Spoils of War, and Overrun whilst the event is going on. PlayStation 4 players can play exclusive festive variations of Make it Count, Gun Rush, and Last Stand. All of these are available through to the 6th of January, so get on shooting!

Between the 23rd and 25th of December, as in today is the last day, anyone who plays Red Dead Online will earn a Seasonal Gift Chest, which includes a bunch of awesome items to help players deeper into the game. Check them out below

  • The Krampus Double Barrel Shotgun Variant
  • 30 rounds of Incendiary Buckshot Ammo
  • 100 Shotgun Slugs
  • 10 Thyme Big Game
  • 10 Minty Plump Birds
  • 20 Carrots
  • 20 Assorted Biscuits
  • 50 Candies
  • 10 Fine Brandies
  • 10 Special Miracle Tonics
  • 20 Volatile Fire Bottles
  • 2x Creek Plums
  • 2x Agarita

Between the 31st of December and the 6th of January players will also earn 1,000XP for playing Red Dead Online for each of the specialist roles, the Bounty Hunter, the Trader, the Collector, and the all new Moonshiner! to be honest I’d play just for this, because it’s an easy way to boost that XP in those core areas of Red Dead Online.

Honestly, this is some great Christmas content. Red Dead Online is available across most platforms now, including Stadia, making it easier than ever to quickly log in and claim these rewards to go on with once you’ve got some more time after Christmas Day. I won’t be jumping on this one because I have yet to even play the game, but you can bet that I want to power through it so I can enjoy the online mode spoiler-free!

At PowerupGaming we’re covering as many Christmas DLC, in-game events, and games in general as we can for the whole of December.
