Games We’re Most Looking Forward To In 2020

It’s a new year and a new decade! The march to next-gen officially begins now, 2020 is the year that will see Sony and Microsoft release the next iterations of their flagship consoles. But we’ve got roughly 11 months before we get there and this gen is still alive and kicking. Now we fully expect some of the games listed below to either be ported or also developed onto next generation hardware, but before they are, they will be released on the PS4 and Xbox One first. Of course the Nintendo Switch has had a very impressive year too and we expect Nintendo will want to continue their hot streak before the competition ups it’s game.

So regardless of platform, here’s 5 games we’re looking forward to playing in 2020:

Doom Eternal

Let’s start with a bang. We’ve been Doom fans for decades, the series have evolved over time, especially with Doom 3. But we felt the most recent entry captured exactly what the series is about; rippling and tearing demons and shooting really big f**king guns! Doom Eternal looks to continue this and we’re incredibly excited to do it all over again.

Final Fantasy 7 (remake)

Remakes of PS1 classics are in vogue right now, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil etc. But if there’s any PS1 classic that really deserves another go around it’s FF7. A game that demonstrated that a strong narrative can make the experience. It can create a world just as compelling as any novel, film or TV show. The remake will hopefully show an entirely new generation of gamers an adventure that captured the hearts and minds of millions 20 years ago.

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite

Okay we know lots of people may wait and choose to play this on next gen, but it’s also coming to Xbox One and lots of gamers will experience it there first. It’s always nice to see Master Chief again doing what he does best. Xbox just isn’t Xbox without Halo and this gen has been rather low on Microsoft exclusives.  It may be a little late in the day for a course correction, but we reckon Halo Infinite will remind us all how much there is to love about the Xbox One.

The Last of Us – Part 2

Few games have this level of hype going in. But that’s because the first was such a masterpiece. Putting an original and thought provoking spin on the zombie apocalypse troupe, The Last Of Us created a bleak and horrific world that is begging to be explored some more. Sony struck gold with this franchise and we’re desperate to see what happens to next to Ellie and Joel. We know this is coming to PS5 inevitably, but the PS4 get the first crack of the whip.

The Legend of Zelda – BOTW 2

The last Zelda game was utterly incredible. It captured what makes Zelda so unique and quintessentially well, Zelda. But modernised the tired format into something truly compelling. Hyrule has never looked so good, we are excited to see how Nintendo mix it up. So far we only have a reveal trailer and the Switch is about to face off against two much more powerful rivals by years end, but we think with a new Zelda game under their belts, they’ll be just fine.
