In a recent interview with RespawnFirst, one developer gave a little bit of an insight into how Nemesis is going to be playing a slightly different role in Resident Evil 3 Remake. While they didn’t go into specifics, they did say that Nemesis has AI that has been built using the AI of Mr X from Resident Evil 2 Remake as a foundation.
Lurking Anywhere
I think the most interesting thing about Nemesis being a different beast entirely in Resident Evil 3 Remake is just how he’ll be different. We’ve seen Mr X do a lot of different things in Resident Evil 2 Remake, but the thing he did best was pursue the player throughout the Raccoon City Police Department building. this guy is relentless, and I think that’ how Nemesis will be behaving for large chunks of Resident Evil 3 Remake. I think we’ll be able to accidentally encounter nemesis in an area, lurking around a corner, and he’ll proceed to chase us until we can either put him down, temporarily, or escape his vision for enough time to put him off of our scent.
Nemesis is a Tyrant, but he’s also basically a bloodhound. He’ll be looking for any clues about Jill Valentine’s whereabouts, whether it’s blood on the ground, a scrap of clothing, or a noise in the distance. In this interview the developer mentioned how much more open Resident Evil 3 Remake is than the original. I reckon we’ll be doing a lot of backtracking through various parts of the game solving puzzles and generally progressing. I also think that Nemesis will take advantage of this.
Think about how Jack Baker behaved in Resident Evil 7. He searched players out around a big section of the Baker house for a good chunk of the game. Imagine that Nemesis is doing that, bit for the majority of the game. It’s a terrifying thought, and I think that’s what will make it so good when we see that’s what he’s doing in the final game. The added pressure of potentially encountering this colossal enemy doesn’t only heighten the terror, it adds more dynamics to the gameplay. This will make every playthrough different, and it’ll make Nemesis feel like a much more organic threat, seeking you out for the entire game.
