Cyberpunk 2077 Has A Resurrected Pop Star

Cyberpunk 2077

A new leak for Cyberpunk 2077 has revealed some awesome details about the game. The leak came from a livestream in which Grimes, a Canadian singer, talked about the backstory of the character that she plays in the game. The character is named Lizzy Wizzy, and she’s also a pop star, but she’s got a much cooler story behind her than simply being born and working hard to be a famous singer. Fair warning, the rest of this article will be spoiling part of Cyberpunk 2077, even though it’s only the backstory of a single character.

Grimes was taking questions from fans during a livestream, which has now been taken down. One fan asked about her role working on Cyberpunk 2077, and she reeled off a load of information that was definitely meant to be covered by an NDA that’s probably sitting somewhere inside the CD Projekt Red premises. Firstly Grimes is extremely vocal about how cool Cyberpunk 2077 is, which sounds great to me. She explained how she didn’t get to play it, but she’s watched someone play an hour of it, most likely the same hour that we’ve seen in previews of the game up until now, and she loved it.

Then Grimes describes how her character, Lizzy Wizzy, commits suicide on stage in the middle of a performance. While Lizzy Wizzy is dead for a full hour, a surgical team work quickly to replace her body with cybernetics, bringing her back to life. She then finishes the show as a cyborg.

This entire story blew my mind, because it says so much about the game’s universe. Even though the universe has existed as a tabletop board game for a while, it’s still impressive to hear stories like this. In this world, a celebrity can commit suicide as a publicity stunt, safe in the knowledge that they can be brought back to life in just an hour. I hope part of the character’s story in the game will see us delve into whether she is truly depressed, or if she was forced into the stunt in order to boost sales of her tour or the next album.

I don’t know about you, but this has really got me excited about the game again. With the recent delays I’d forgotten about it for a bit, but now I am fully back on the Cyberpunk 2077 train, how about you? Let me know in the comments.
