The release date for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of Void Bastards has officially been released. The games will hit both consoles on May 7th, which is just a couple of weeks away. The release date was accompanied by a brand new trailer, just to get you into the mood for this extremely strange game.
Void Bastards is a weird one. It’s not quite FTL, but it’s also very far from your usual rogulike as well. You play as a group of random escapees as they try to navigate a section of space that is filled with dangers. You’ll have to stop to pick up fuel, food, water, and many other consumables such as bullets that are essential to your survival. You’ll plan your route through the various hazards, and be put in control of the crazy gunner heading into each ship as you stop.
This game isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s gritty and fast. You need to be on the ball if you’re going to get through the enemy’s ship in time to gather everything you need and escape without being killed. Along the way you might murder the entire crew, but it’s all part of the cause. You will need to decide which route to take based on the needs of your crew. If you need food and water, you’ll have to stop, but if you could stand to skip a few ships, then that’s totally fine too.
The campaign will set you back about 12-15 hours, but there’s plenty of extra content to come back for in future playthroughs. This is very much a game that is designed to be played multiple times. It’s perfect for taking in the more challenging difficulty modes one after the other, and you can definitely put your own spin on things by restricting yourself to a pacifist run, or something similar, if you’re a real glutton for punishment.
We’re trying to report on as much good news in games as possible during these troubling times. If you enjoyed hearing about the release date for these new ports of Void Bastards, then head over here for more good news.
