Early on in the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, when things were looking quite bad, Humble Bundle had an idea. they set up the Humble Conquer COVID-19 Bundle. This was a collection of games that you could purchase for an amount you set, and all the proceeds would go to charities fighting COVID-19. Well, it’s been a week, and this bundle has been a colossal success.
The Humble Conquer COVID-19 Bundle raised just over $6.5 million from 208,527 bundles sold. The charities receiving a split of this money are the International Rescue Committee, Direct Relief, Partners In Health, and Doctors Without Borders.
For Direct Relief, as I’m sure it is for all of the charities, this is an incredible amount of money to get donated. The money will translate into direct help immediately, paying for PPE for doctors and nurses, medications and supplies for those with a serious case of COVID-19, as well as resources for those who are most at risk from the pandemic.
For International Rescue Committee, this money will help support vulnerable populations around the world at this time. This comes in the form of people on the ground in countries without a healthcare infrastructure, providing everything needed to help prevent, treat, and eradicate COVID-19.
For Doctors Without Borders, this money helps pay for doctors to go where the need is. There are countries around the world who don’t have doctors, and they desperately need them. What’s almost worse, there are places in the UK and US that need doctors who can work for free, and Doctors Without Borders helps supplement an income to enable a community to get a doctor without needing to pay for one. Social distancing and lockdowns are one thing, but there are some people who just need a doctor to treat them, people who won’t be treated any other way.
Finally, for Partners In Health, this money is going to pay for test, treatment, and prevention wherever they can supply it. Every charity listed is working to slow the spread of COVID-19, and with so many working so hard to do so, hopefully more people will survive this pandemic than would have otherwise.
