You Can Now Play Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge At Home

One of my favourite episodes of The Simpsons is a real golden oldie. The episode is titled “Marge Be Not Proud”, and sees Bart steal a copy of the latest video game in their weird world, Bonestorm, because his parents won’t buy it for him. It’s a tumultuous tale that sees Bart caught and threatened with legal action should he return, and when it all comes out, Marge is just broken by her disappointment in him. However, Bart turns things around in the end. As a reward for proving that he can be good, Marge goes to the store and buys the game that every little boy is asking for, Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge.

Now obviously this isn’t the game that Bart, or anyone, wanted. It’s a golf simulator that not only looks incredibly slow, it sounds like ass. That’s the joke, and the game is actually explained within the episode as being impossible to sell. Poor Marge was just swindled by the store clerk, who I’m pretty sure is Comicbook Guy.

While I love reminiscing about old episodes of The Simpsons, that’s not the point of this article. I wanted to make you all aware that one developer, Aaron Demeter, has gone above and beyond to bring the game to life, and you can play it right now. The link to the game’s Itch.io page is here.

The game is extremely limited, because it’s based on the single screen from the end of an episode of The Simpsons. But all of the hilarious audio is there, and if you remember the episode then this will take you right back. You can even get the shot right, opting for the putter instead of the 3-Wood, and going for a feather touch hit instead of a power drive. The game does give a bit of an insight into how clunky a full version would be, but I’d honestly still play it. If it was built as a joke for older Simpsons fans, then this could be a really interesting game to play through, especially if there were secrets and easter eggs to unlock.

For now though, just enjoy the limited amount of Simpsons nostalgia that there is to be found here.
