The Last Of Us Part 2 Already Has Some Ridiculous Stats

It may only have been available for a couple of weeks, but The Last Of Us Part 2 already has some very ridiculous stats. The game topped sales charts when it launched, which is no surprise, but it really has started to go beyond what most people expected of it.

First and foremost, the game has already topped 4 million copies sold. Perhaps rather unimpressively, this is about the population of Moldova, Croatia, or Georgia, but it’s still quite interesting to know that the equivalent of each of these region’s population has purchased the game. Sticking to the tone of the game, the rest of the stats for 4 million people are a bit more depressing, but they’re still important. For example, 4 million people is about the number that have fled from Venezuela, and it’s also the number of people in poverty in the UK according to a recent study.

However, to bring the tone up slightly, for the equivalent number of copies of The Last Of Us Part 2 sold in pounds you could purchase a rather wonderful stately home outside of Bristol in the UK.

The game has also managed to beat the last Naughty Dog game to be the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive in history, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. At the end of a console’s generation, it’s astounding that one game can still break that record. Yes, there are more PlayStation 4 owners now than there ever have been, but there are also many people holding out on spending money on games until the next generation launches later this year.

I think that these stats show just how good Naughty Dog is at making games. They’ve spent years honing their craft, and now each game that they release is bigger and better. The Last Of Us Part 2 may have taken its sweet time to get into our hands, but it was well-worth the wait in my opinion.

I wonder just how well the studio’s next game will sell. They’re said to be working on a multiplayer version of The Last Of Us Part 2, but they must also be working on something else new. We’ll have to wait and see if it becomes the fastest-selling PlayStation 5 exclusive when it launches.
