Next-gen consoles are just a few months away and the excitement for the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Until then, there are numerous games scheduled to release on current-gen consoles but did you know that they’ll be playable on next-gen consoles, and some may even offer players free upgrades to take full advantage of the new technology. Take a look at some of the games which are offering free upgrades below:
GTA V, a game which first released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013 before launching on the PS4 and Xbox One, is being re-released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles in late 2021. The re-release will reportedly feature a “range of technical improvements” as well as graphical upgrades and performance enhancements.
A new version of Grand Theft Auto Online will also be released and PS5 owners will be able to claim it for free within the first three months of its launch. However, it’s unclear if players will be given an upgraded next-gen version of the game for free if they already possess a current-gen copy.
Also, there is no information at this point on whether Rockstar Games will make adjustments to the Diamond & Casino Resort as part of the new release. The company has received widespread criticism from institutions around the world who argue that Rockstar Games would basically run an unlicensed online casino. Since players can buy shark cards and directly use them to wager on games, the critics say that Rockstar Games should obtain a gambling license like all other online casino operators in the United Kingdom. You can read more about regulation here. However, the UK Gambling Commission ruled late last year that GTA’s Diamond casino does not constitute gambling under current legislation since players cannot receive real money payouts.
Marvel’s Avengers is an upcoming action video game developed by Crystal Dynamics. Inspired by Marvel Comics, the game takes place several years after the events of A-Day, a celebratory day held in honour of the Avengers which ended in hundreds of deaths and catastrophe. The superhero team is forced to reunite as a new threat emerges.
The game, which was initially going to launch in May 2020, features a single play and online multiplayer mode. Marvel’s Avengers will release on September 4th, 2020, on Google Stadia, PS4, PC, and Xbox One. An upgraded version of the game will be released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and be available for free to users who bought current-gen copies.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red. The game is set in the fictional Night City in the future where players assume the role of a mercenary named V who is fully-customisable and is tasked with finding a rare implant that will offer immortality. The game features a first-person perspective and is set in a vast living and breathing open-world with multiple districts. It also features the voice talents of Keanu Reeves.
The game, which has been in development since around 2012, will release on PS4, Windows, and Xbox One in November. An upgraded version of the game will be released in 2021 and will be free to users who purchase a current-gen version.
These are just some of the games that will be offering next-gen upgrades. Other titles have also been confirmed including FIFA 21, Destiny 2, Madden NFL 21, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Control, and so many others. There’s no doubt that more games with upgraded versions will be announced in the lead up to the consoles’ release, so keep an eye out for them!
