Blasphemous Is Worth Buying With The Stir Of Dawn On The Way

Team 17 and The Game Kitchen have announced Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn. This is the first expansion to Blasphemous, and it comes to you absolutely free. The expansion isn’t set to launch until August 4, so you have plenty of time to pick the game up and get stuck in before the DLC completely screws with everything you know about it.

Blasphemous: The Stir of Dawn is a big expansion to the base game. It will arrive via an update, which is why it’ll be free. On top of a range of bug fixes and quality of life improvements, the expansion will add the following.

  • New Game + Mode – This is a great way to get back into the game if you’ve already finished it. You can start the story over again, with all the upgrades you’ve earned so far. However, with a new game and upgrades, comes an increased difficulty. I expect that this mode will be similar to the same mode in Dark Souls, which sees the world scale with your starting skill. Get ready for more punishment that you’ve ever seen before.
  • New story, NPCs, bosses, areas, and voice acting – The voice acting was already great in Blasphemous, but this new stuff will be the icing on the cake. What you should focus on here is the new story and extra content that is being added in. This will probably be implemented in the same way as it has been in the Dark Souls games. There will be some puzzle to follow, or a new area to find, which is well hidden. This will unlock the new bosses and stories, making them completely avoidable if you don’t know where you’re going.
  • Revamped map – It looks like the game will have more fast travel points, making it easier to get where you need to go in the world of Cvstodia.
  • New items – More items means more world-building, and I can’t wait to see what else we get to understand through the expansion.

Overall this sounds like a very competent expansion for an incredible game. If you’ve never tried it, Blasphemous is discounted on the Switch eShop, which is one of the best places to play the game.
