Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time Has Some Great Multiplayer Features

We’ve recently been given a look at the multiplayer that’s going to be launching with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. It may not seem like the kind of game that needs multiplayer, but that’s precisely why it does need it. The games are so prolific that people enjoy just watching them, living through each level as a bystander, or waiting for a chance to try it for themselves. These multiplayer modes mix things up slightly, and they’re going to be a lot of fun to play.

Bandicoot Battle Mode

This mode allows for up to four players to compete in multiplayer events. The first of these is Checkpoint Race. This one might be a bit hard to get your head around, bu I promise you that it’s a lot more simple than it seems. Players will take turns with a controller to race from one checkpoint to the next, swapping the controller each time a checkpoint is reached. There are boxes that can be hit to freeze time for the previous player’s ghost, allowing you to get an advantage over them. This mode is best for those who are good at certain sections of the game, but not all of them. It’ll allow you to play to your strengths.

Then we have Crate Combo. This is a mode that pretty much goes against every instinct you’ll have as a Crash fan. There are crates throughout the level, nothing new, but you need to hit them in close succession to each other in order to gain the highest score. There is a multiplier bar in the bottom right corner that you need to hit the next crate within, or you’ll lose out on that multiplier bonus. The idea is to push up your multiplier so that you have the highest score, but if you’re too fast you might succumb to the level’s traps.

Both of these multiplayer modes are a fantastic way to spend more time in the game. I have no doubt that they’ll be required for getting full completion, so any completionists out there are going to need to pour hours into each level with someone else if they want to unlock everything. Multiplayer totally changes the world of Crash Bandicoot for the better, as we saw with Crash Bash. I can’t wait to see how much it enhances this latest game.
