If you didn’t know, Konami recently rated and released Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Subsistence for PC through GOG. This was a complete surprise to everyone in the games industry. This is a publisher who has shown little to no interest in the Metal Gear franchise since they almost killed the series with Metal Gear Survive. Now it looks like they’re going to be trying to bring yet more games to PC, this time it’s Silent Hill 4: The Room.

Silent Hill is a prolific horror series. It’s easily the most loved horror franchise in games, but sadly it’s one that Konami themselves have managed to murder. With the departure of Hideo Kojima, Konami lost out on their last chance to do something good with the Silent Hill name. However, there is still a back catalogue of good games.
Everything up to Silent Hill 4: The Room is widely considered to be the core series, with everything that came after being pretty poor, if not downright terrible. The thing is, Silent Hill 4: The Room is a very different game to the first three entires. It’s set outside of the town, but sees the protagonist travel there through weird holes in the wall. Everything is linked to Silent Hill, in fact the whole game is a reference to Silent Hill 2, but it’s still a very grey area as far as series fans are concerned.
As for whether we need this game on PC, I think that we do. It’s been years since we had a halfway good Silent Hill game, and bringing this one to PC would be a breathe of fresh air. I’ve always thought of it as the most interesting entry to the series. It poses a lot of questions about the town and its powers that I think the other games shy away from a bit. I would love to play it on PC, mostly because it’ll look better. I think that having this game available to more people on a modern machine would showcase some of the best horror the industry has ever seen, and hopefully inspire more of it to come in the future.
