Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Now A Bloated Mess

After the most recent update, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has become a colossal bloated mess. I’m not talking about the sheer amount of content that there is to play. I actually think that’s a positive for it. No, what I’m talking about is the fact that this game is now so big that it takes up more space on a hard drive than any other game I can think of. In a single year it’s now larger than Destiny 2, which is about to start its fourth year with a new expansion next month.

Seeing this tweet genuinely shocked me. It’s almost as if Activision doesn’t care about how big they make the game, they just want to push updates out quickly, and without any sort of thought for their consumer’s hard drive space or interest in other games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is required in order to play Warzone, the massively popular battle royale game set in the Call of Duty universe. It’s a great game, and one that’s played by millions, but if it’s the only game you can fit on your device’s hard drive, how do you play anything else? Somehow I don’t think that Activision is evil enough to only want players to have their game, and nothing else. They have a number of other games that they need people to play at the very least.

Instead, I think that Activision isn’t doing enough to allow their developers the time they need to optimise assets. Bungie has managed to decrease the size of Destiny 2 by around 40% with the upcoming release of Beyond Light, the latest expansion. They’re removing some content, whilst optimising the rest of it.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone will evolve to include new content. This just means that it’ll be bigger, but it won’t be going away. Since it’s developed by a different company, there will be lots of crossover, lots of assets leftover, and lots of mess. I can’t see the game getting any smaller, even though it’s one mode. If Activision doesn’t fix this soon, they’re going to start to see players leaving just so that they can enjoy something else for a change. In a world where playing the latest release as soon as possible is paramount, Warzone is already a dinosaur.
