At the very heart of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a settlement that Eivor will be building up over the course of the game. This is something that we’ve known about for a while, but now we can see a few more details thanks to some newly shared concept art form the game. This settlement is going to be the base that players return to after every raid, and it’ll be the home they protect from raids or attacks from the Saxons. It’s going to be at the very centre of each player’s experience, and I can’t wait to go there.
In the above image you can see the settlement we’ll start with. This run down little area will quickly become a bustling town full of Vikings over the course of the game’s story. As far as I know, we’ll be able to go away and come back to see things build up over real time. I also believe that there will be missions specifically related to enhancing each of the structures. For example, we’ll go out hunting to add more to the food shop, and head out collecting materials to bolster the armourer and weaponsmith.
This is the interior of one of the buildings, I presume the town hall. Aside from the absolute stud sitting on the left, this is a fairly sparse structure, making me think that it will be reserved for Eivor and the leadership of the settlement only. If you’ve ever watched the show Vikings, you might think that this is where the people of this settlement will gather for meetings. I think that’s probably right, but over time it might evolve to simply encompass only the most important members of the society.
I’m really looking forward to having this living breathing village to return to after a hard day of raiding. It looks so inviting, and I can tell right now that there are going to be loads of stories to experience just in this place alone. I’m so glad that Ubisoft has decided to return to a homestead system in the latest Assassin’s Creed entry, it’s such a refreshing change even though it’s quite an old feature now.
