Watch Dogs Legion has been out for a few weeks now, and it’s great! I’ve loved every second that I’ve spent in the virtual version of London. Even now I find myself navigating based on my real-life memory of the city, as opposed to using in-game navigation to get around. It’s so impressive that Ubisoft has people who are able to recreate a city this successfully. I imagine that the previous cities used in the games have felt just as real. I’ve just never noticed because I haven’t lived in either Chicago or San Fransisco. But now we’re done with Watch Dogs Legion, where should the series go next?
The Watch Dogs series feels very similar to the Assassin’s Creed series. Each one tells an interconnected story, but jumps between locations and time frames, sometimes quite drastically. Using the Watch Dogs series as it is right now, I think it’s safe to say that the next game will be set after Watch Dogs Legion, so let’s dive into where it should go next.
Each Watch Dogs game is set in a city where technology is already hugely prevalent. In Chicago there’s a massively advanced system monitoring the entire city. In both London and San Fransisco technology is used more and more each day to control the daily goings-on and monitor people much closer. Therefore, I believe the next game should be set in Dubai.
Think about it, Dubai is one of the most advanced cities in the world. It might not be quite as advanced as the western world, but there’s a lot of money being thrown around. I think it would be incredible to explore the Watch Dogs universe through a young hacker just learning their way in the world. They could get mixed up with DedSec and need to infiltrate all kinds of companies in order to secure money for those who need it most. I believe that Dubai is the only place that a story like this could work, because there’s the right blend of poverty and the hyper-rich just waiting to be robbed by high-tech thieves with a heart.
