2021 Is Dying Light 2’s Year

A recent report from MP1ST shows that we’re going to be getting some news on one of the biggest zombie games of 2021, Dying Light 2. Since E3 2019, I’ve heard very little, if anything, about this game. sure, we’ve had videos of gameplay that have been great-looking, but even those are visualisations of what press members have been talking about being shown over a year ago. For all intents and purposes, 2020 should have been Dying Light 2’s year, but with Cyberpunk 2077, I think that now 2021 is going to be this game’s year instead.

Dying Light launched almost six years ago at the time of writing. It released in the first month or so of 2015, and because it had little to no competition, it did exceptionally well since then, developer Techland has continued to produce content for the game. Most of it’s free as well. This means that players have regular reasons to return and enjoy their favourite zombie game. It’s a formula that many big name developers now follow, including Ubisoft with the Assassin’s Creed series.

In many ways, Dying Light set trends for the next five years of gaming. It took a while, but developers caught onto what made the game so great to come back to, and now we have many games that you could pick up and enjoy for a year without getting bored.

Dying Light 2 is going to take all of that to the next level. The world is dynamic, based on the choices players make throughout the story. I also believe that Techland is looking at their current community for inspiration, and is bringing some of the elements that fans have made or requested to the sequel. One example I can think of is the battle royale mode made by modders. Eight players drop into the world, and they must gather vials and escape. Only one can survive though.

With more and more multiplayer games on the scene, Dying Light 2 stands a good chance to keeping players engaged by offering a totally unique multiplayer experience in its own rich world. The first game had something similarly special, so my hopes are that Dying Light 2 is even better.
