Diablo 2 Resurrected Is A Good Way To Try Out The Franchise Before Diablo 4 Drops

Over the weekend, it probably didn’t escape you that Activision Blizzard held Blizzconline and revealed two new looks at the Diablo franchise. While Diablo 4 looks incredible, it’s still a long way off. In the meantime, we’ve got a remastered version of Diablo 2 coming called Diablo Resurrected. As someone who has never touched the series, I’m excited to jump in for the first time when Diablo 2 Resurrected hits PC and consoles at some point this year. I think it’s a fantastic entry point, and I believe that many others who are new to the series will find it a decent area to try out the franchise as well.

Diablo is pretty much a household name when it comes to gaming. Having never experienced the games myself, I still know what they are and what they represent. They popularised the ARPG genre, and basically crafted it out of the gameplay present in them. Each new entry added something on top of the existing gameplay to make it more engrossing. However, Diablo 3 is the game that took the franchise to the next level. Its online elements and teamplay allowed for an all-encompassing experience. I know people who purely play that game and nothing else, much like how others only play Destiny 2.

I’ve played other ARPG games, and I’ve always got on with them. I like the genre because it appeals to the player who adores the grind in me. I love picking up hundreds of quests and playing through the world for hours on end. When I come back to the hub, I get to pick up loads of rewards and level up my character. It’s so appealing to me, and something I generally prefer on handheld devices too. I think that I’ll be getting into Diablo 2 Resurrected as soon as it launches, but I’ll almost certainly play it most on the Switch. Something about that experience on Nintendo’s handheld console just seems to fit right.

Hopefully, by the time that Diablo 4 comes along, there will be so many more of us hardcore fans out there that we can really rip the game world apart and give it a new definition of difficulty.
