This week, The Elder Scrolls Online: Flames Of Ambition launches for a few platforms. The DLC is probably the best that has ever been made, at least in my opinion. That’s because it brings Oblivion back to the center of the focus, one of the most incredible areas in the entire franchise. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is the game that got me into the series, and being able to return to a similar setting in the ever-evolving online world is something that I’ve been looking forward to for years. Check out the trailer for it below and read on for some more excitement.

Of course, this is just the first chapter in the game’s latest expansion, The Gates Of Oblivion. This is what Elder Scrolls Online players will see evolving throughout the year with more and more chapters hitting their platforms. It’s all still based around Oblivion and the worship of the gods that occupy that realm. Some people in the world want to bring these gods back and have them rule, while others, the more sensible ones, want to keep them firmly in their realms where they can cause minimal harm. Personally, I just want to see more of them, but that doesn’t mean I want them to come and rule the world.

This initial chapter in the Gates Of Oblivion storyline will see the addition of new dungeons to the world. They’re going to demonstrate the danger of Mehrunes Dagon, the epic demonic god who wants to break out of Oblivion. The concept of a huge demonic god trying to break through and unleashing demons is one that I’ve always loved in the franchise. In Skyrim, there were a few quests that got close to this sort of territory, but they never fully went there. That’s because Oblivion did everything that needed doing, and can’t be outdone.

Still, it’s nice to be getting an entire expansion dedicated to Oblivion, because really it is the game that brought the most fans to the franchise. Even if we never get another single-player that goes there, this will be enough to keep me happy for years.
