Would You Pay A Subscription Fee For Assassin’s Creed Infinity?

Before you jump to the comments and start banging on about me knowing something you don’t, trust me, I don’t. Recently though, I’ve been thinking about the idea of a subscription-based Assassin’s Creed experience, mainly in light of Assassin’s Creed Infinity being in the works. There’s also a huge sale on for the Assassin’s Creed series, meaning I’ve been given the opportunity to pick up new versions where I didn’t have them before. I think I own most of the games at least twice, and yet I still feel like they’re just out of my grasp. That’s why I think there could be a place for an Assassin’s Creed Infinity subscription.

The argument against this subscription-based series is, of course, that you never own the games. Ubisoft can pull the plug on the servers when it thinks it’s not making enough money, and all access is revoked. It’s much safe to own the discs so that you can access them at all times. However, I think that there could still be a place for Infinity with die-hard fans. For me, I know I’d appreciate a subscription that I could use to play all the Assassin’s Creed games across every platform without needing to purchase multiple copies. I buy every game anyway because I love the collector’s editions, so this would just me the practical way to play them.

My only caveat is that Ubisoft needs to support all of the games in the franchise and continuously update them. If there are glitches, which there most certainly are, there needs to be a regular update and patch schedule to help fix them and bring them up to par. I’m not paying a subscription fee for a broken set of games that will never get fixed just because a megacorporation puts it out there. As I said, I buy the games anyway, and that’s a safer bet.

I’ve only come around to this idea because I’ve been playing more Assassin’s Creed lately, and I want to be able to do that for the rest of my life. If a server-based solution is the way forward, I’m here for it, but I need a guarantee of permanence at some point so that there’s no question of me losing one of the games.

Yep, I’d pay with some of the obvious stipulations you have listed, but I’d have more expectations as well that’d have to justify the investment. But sure…I’m game.
