Should You Play Forza Horizon 5?

Forza Horizon 5 is the latest installment in the absolutely fantastic Forza Horizon franchise. The game takes you over to an interpretation of Mexico where all the key elements of the country have been squashed together in the largest world a game in the series has ever had, and then you’re left to go nuts with it. There’s something so special about this series that’s hard to put your finger on, but I like to think that the encouragement in careful driving and high-speeds when required is what makes it feel like a great driving simulator. However, it’s not for everyone, so here’s what you need to know when deciding if you should play it.

First, this is a driving simulator, not a racing game. By that, I mean that it doesn’t have the same arcade elements you might expect from a Burnout title or Hot Wheels Unleashed. Instead, you’re rewarded for driving safer and better than your opponents. The racing line is there for you to follow because it provides the best chance of getting from A to B as fast as possible, providing you follow the guidance. If you want a game that’s all about crashing cars into one another and making some truly epic explosions, then you probably need to look elsewhere for something to play.

Forza Horizon 5 is about completing events to raise your status as a racing driver. No one wants to race against a reckless driver who scratches paint. You need to be careful and collect the best cars in the game over the course of your career by earning cash and finding the cars in the world. There’s so much to do in this game it’s unreal. From online events, through the main campaign, and into the collectibles, you’re going to struggle to get bored with this one.

I’ve played a good chunk of Forza Horizon 4, and I’m ready for this new game. I think that it’ll be the best driving game of 2021, and that’s hard for me to say because I love Hot Wheels Unleashed. I just can’t wait to see how many hours I can plow into the title and still come away wanting more.
